All businesses want to grow, but they usually find themselves plateauing at a growth ceiling. This ceiling is hit when they reach their current ability to manage the amount of business they have. They are simply too busy. Their very success becomes their problem.
If you’re in this position, it’s time to adapt the way you run your business – and while that’s seemingly obvious – the required changes can be counter intuitive. More marketing is not the secret to more growth.
Like most growing businesses – you are probably the bottle neck. You need to think more about how you support your team to take more of the workload. But, how do you do this when you’re already over worked? There are two paths: 1. Develop your team; 2. Modify what you sell.
Let’s just look at number 2: Modify what you sell. Your current success is probably based on your personal ability to deliver great quality to customers. If you’re still promising your level of quality – but expecting your team to deliver that – change this. You’re almost certainly over-promising (then spending your time making up for your team’s lesser abilities). Look at the range of what you’re selling – and what your team can more successfully deliver with less input from you. Start selling more of that. This can be an immediate way to get back more of your time.
This is just one of many ways to adapt your business to support more growth. For more ideas, grab our free report at www.redhot.co.nz/freereport or read some more of our blogs. And, if you want to know more about how we’ve helped other businesses over the last 15 years – just ask around about us.
